Skippering an ODI team has never been simple, however, some players are simply born to flourish, and in the following article, we will look at ten of those who have outperformed many other individuals in their careers with their run-scoring abilities.

1. Ricky Ponting

The Australian captain leads the way with an overall mean of 42.91 and a total of 8,497 runs in 220 games. He has 22 hundred as an ODI skipper and is the second most worldwide century striker behind Sachin Tendulkar in his tenure as a player.

2. M.S Dhoni

Dhoni has won the 50-over World Cup, T20 World Cup, and ICC Champions Trophy as a skipper, which is anything that few people can claim. He has 6 hundred in his tenure as an ODI skipper, giving him a total of 6,641 runs.

3. Stephen Fleming

Stephen Paul Fleming, full title Stephen Paul Fleming, is the present head trainer of IPL side Chennai Super Kings and is regarded New Zealand Cricket's greatest player of all time. With 6,295 runs in his tenure as an ODI skipper, he comes in third on our list.

4. Arjuna Ranatunga

5. Graeme Smith
